You need your provisional licence before you can start your lessons

The minimum age you can take driving lessons in a car in the UK is 17, or 16 if you are currently getting Disability Living Allowance at the higher rate. Before you start taking your driving lessons you need to apply for a provisional licence, which you can do 2 months before your 17th birthday, however you can't drive until your 17th birthday. To apply for your provisional licence, and to get further details, just visit the DVLA web site or obtain form D1 from the Post Office

Using Signals

Use signals wisely

signals should be used to inform, not confuse. They should be used in good time as part of the MSM routine and then canceled when no longer needed. Always signal on approaching a junction to turn left or right, no matter how clear the road is

Your theory test is split into two parts, multiple choice questions and hazard perception . . . you have to pass both parts during the same test, or you'll have to take the full test again . . . so it really is worth asking your Weelz instructors advice and starting to prepare early . . .

The multiple choice questions:

This part of your test has of 35 multiple choice questions covering a wide range of driving topics. By touching the screen, you select an answer, or answers, from the selection shown

To pass you must answer 30 or more questions correctly in 40 minutes

You have the option of working through a practice session lasting up to 15 minutes to get used to the system before starting the actual test.

The hazard perception test:

After a short break, the hazard perception part will start. You will be shown a tutorial video first. This uses a demonstration video, which will explain how to complete this part of the test. You may repeat the tutorial once more if you wish

The test consists of 14 video clips, each lasting about one minute. The clips feature various types of hazards, such as vehicles, pedestrians and road conditions. You should respond by pressing a mouse button as soon as you see a hazard developing that may result in the driver having to take some action, such as changing speed or direction. The earlier the developing hazard is spotted, and a response made, the higher the score

You can score up to five marks on each hazard and the test contains 15 hazards for which you can score

The pass mark for this part of the test is 44

You'll be given your results when you've finished both parts of the test and have returned to the waiting room. You must pass both parts of the test to achieve a test pass certificate

The Theory test can be booked by calling the DSA booking line on 0870 0101 372
